RECONSTRUCTION: This is a lead-free recreation of the vintage 1950s opaque formula. It replaces the toxic heavy metals with modern titanium pigment while maintaining the solvent-based permanence.
| Ingredient | Mass (g) | % |
|---|---|---|
| XYLOL (Xylene) | 650g | 68.5% |
| TITANIUM DIOXIDE | 200g | 21.0% |
| DAMAR RESIN | 100g | 10.5% |
| BENTONE CLAY | 5g | 0.5% |
Crush Damar Resin crystals into dust. Dissolve into Xylene. This takes time (24-48 hours) or constant agitation. Strain through cheesecloth to remove organic bark/impurities.
Add Titanium Dioxide. This pigment is heavy. You MUST use a ball mill or shake with steel bearings for 20+ minutes.
Add a pinch of Bentone Clay (or Kaolin). This prevents the heavy white pigment from forming a solid rock at the bottom of the can.
Like the original, this ink separates quickly. Listen for the rattle. Shake before every use.
